The thought of losing a tooth can be intimidating and even scary for children. Families worldwide celebrate losing a baby tooth with a visit from the Tooth Fairy, a magical creature who brings gifts to small children when they lose their baby teeth. It’s a comforting tradition to turn a bit of a traumatizing experience into a magical and exciting time for little children.
Here at West Road Dental, a dental clinic for kids, the Tooth Fairy is a bit of a celebrity. Tooth Fairy is so popular; she has two days dedicated to her – August 22 and February 28. We take this opportunity to raise awareness and “celebrate” the importance of having healthy teeth and taking care of them by eating healthy food and cutting down on sugar. We believe that it is a great way to add a touch of magic when it comes to keeping your little one’s teeth clean and healthy on a day-to-day basis.
Here are some ideas to celebrate this fabulous fairy:
Watch movies
There are some great family-friendly movies dedicated to this tooth-loving winged fairy. You can watch The Tooth Fairy or Rise of the Guardians; both are highly popular and loved by kids of all ages. Do not forget to munch on some healthy snacks for a fun movie time.
Make a Tooth Fairy Pillow
Celebrate the day by making a DIY tooth fairy pillow. The tooth-shaped pillow features a tiny pocket that can hold a tooth – and later, when the tooth fairy visits, a small gift. You can find sewing and pattern instructions online, making this project quick and easy for your little ones. It’s definitely a great gift to make with a loose-toothed child in your child. Make in before the first tooth falls, and your child will be ready for a visit from the tooth fairy. With your little pillow, there is no need to hide a tooth under your pillow when you have an adorable cushion that you can hang by the bed or on the door.
Read an oral-themed book
One of the best ways to teach kids about children’s dental care is reading to them. And there are so many wonderful children’s books about making your child learn. These books will help your preschooler not only brush better but also understand why they need to take care of their pearly whites.
You can give smile-related gifts that encourage excellent oral hygiene like a delicious, kid-friendly toothpaste, cool toothbrush, new dental floss, or a timer that lets kids know when their two minutes of brushing are up. When these items are gifted on Tooth Fairy Day, they can motivate kids to use them regularly.
